Portable chemo infusion technology a “gamechanger’ for kids” cancer care

For 14 years, nurse Nicole Robinson dedicated herself to guiding families through life’s most challenging moments, until her own world was shaken when her 5-year-old was brought into the emergency department with what was initially thought to be appendicitis. “I thought, you know, having worked in the area for as long as I have, that somehow that made me immune to the diagnosis," she said. "Life-changing words to hear and let me know that they had found leukemia in his blood." But a groundbreaking breakthrough in pediatric cancer treatment transformed Hendrix’s care. With the introduction of Blinatumamap, a targeted immunotherapy that, when paired with traditional chemotherapy, boosted survival rates to an astonishing 97 per cent.
