2024 will be hottest year on record: EU climate agency

2024 is set to be the hottest year in recorded history and the first time Earth's average temperature reached 1.5 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial average, according to the Copernicus Climate Change Service – the European Union's climate agency. The agency’s warning comes as world leaders prepare to meet for the COP29 climate summit in Azerbaijan. Global’s Redmond Shannon explains why U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's impending return to the White House could derail efforts to curb emissions and how the politics of pollution are alive and well in Canada, too.
